An elderly woman has been reunited with her family after being abandoned in a Smithfield motel room.
Smithfield Police say they are investigating and have not ruled out filing charges.
JoCoReport.com has learned that police were called to a motel room on Mallard Road Saturday afternoon after a cleaning lady found a 70 year-old Dunn woman had been abandoned.
Captain R.K. Powell said police have learned a family member picked up the elderly woman from a rest home and took her to the motel. The family member left the woman in the room and did not return. Police said the woman was not able to provide care for herself.
Police were able to locate other family members who came to Smithfield to pick up the woman. Captain Powell said the investigating was still ongoing. The victim in the case was not physically harmed.
