KENLY – Kenly Firefighters had only to walk out their front door to respond to a Saturday evening accident when an approximately 80-year old woman making a donation at the Kenly “Blessing Box” in front of the Kenly Fire Department, was run over by her own car.
The victim mistakenly left the car in gear as she began placing her donated items in the box. The car rolled away but as she attempted to stop it, her leg and foot were run over by the four-door passenger car.
The driverless car continued across the parking lot, crossed Second Street, broke through a tall fence and crashed into a house. The home suffered minor damage.
The driver was transported to Wake Med with non-life threatening injuries.
This was the second Kenly home to be struck by a car in one week.
Kenly Police investigated the 8:00pm accident.
