The Carolina Mudcats, the Class-A Advanced affiliate of the Milwaukee Brewers, have announced infielder Lucas Erceg was named the Carolina League Player of the Week for the week ending on August 27. Erceg led the Carolina League in RBIs and OPS during the week of play running from August 21 through August 27.
In all, Erceg went 11-for-22 and hit .500/.621/.773 with a 1.393 OPS, eight runs, three doubles, one home run, seven RBIs and seven walks while earning the weekly honor for the second time this season. Erceg additionally won the Carolina League Player of the Week award earlier this season on July 31.
The 21-year-old third baseman hit safely in five of six games during the last week of play, including a stretch of three multi-hit games between August 23 and August 25. Erceg’s August 25 game was especially stellar as he went 3-for-5 with four RBIs, thus catapulting him into the Carolina League lead for RBIs this season.
The weekly honor was Erceg’s second this season and the second of his young career. He and Monte Harrison are the only two Mudcats to win a Carolina League Player of the Week award this season.
Erceg made his professional debut last season with the Helena Brewers after the Brewers selected him in the second round of the 2016 MLB Draft out of Menlo College in California. He finished the 2016 season with Low-A Wisconsin and began the 2017 campaign with the Mudcats. He is currently in his first full season and second overall.
The Carolina Mudcats are the proud new Carolina League, Class-A Advanced affiliate of the Milwaukee Brewers. First established in 1991, the two-time Southern League Champion Mudcats are in their 27th consecutive season of baseball at Five County Stadium in Zebulon.
