CLAYTON – Johnston County Commissioners have approved a rezoning request for an Event Venue near Clayton.

In a unanimous vote, commissioners approved a petition by Steve and Haley Lenderman to rezone 2.4 acres out of a 5.9 acre tract at 2239 Barber Mill Road from Agricultural-Residential to General Business-Conditional Use.

Mr. Lenderman owns a home on the property, known as the Bryan-Wilkins House, that was built in 1910 and plans to convert it into an event venue for small business conferences and weddings. They will have parking for 100 or more guests at weddings.

The Planning Board heard the request at their August 2021 meeting. One person spoke in opposition due to concerns about music and traffic. The Planning Board recommended approval.

During approval at their December meeting, commissioners imposed several conditions on the rezoning including adherence to environmental health regulations for any food preparation and sales, and strict compliance with the County Noise Ordinance.
