SMITHFIELD – The Johnston County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the theft of construction equipment. A Yanmar excavator was stolen from a jobsite, in the 3100 block of Packing Plant Road near Smithfield, between August 19 – 21.
The equipment, owned by Civil Contracting LLC of Smithfield, was valued at $20,000.
Authorities said the person who stole the machinery also damaged the roadway during the theft while loading it onto a trailer.
