The Sampson County Sheriff’s Office and Sampson County school system have received numerous calls inquiring about a school shooting on Friday, but the report was false.
The rumors involved Lakewood High School.
Sampson County Schools emailed parents Friday morning saying administrators at Lakewood High were made aware of a threat Thursday afternoon against two students at the school. Law enforcement was immediately notified. Friday morning, administrators and deputies intercepted the individuals, who allegedly made the threat, as they arrived on campus.
The individuals were searched and no weapons were found.
Lakewood High operated on a normal schedule Friday, however there was an unrelated electrical issue that left the school without power for about an hour. Officials said the threat had passed and the situation was resolved.
School officials asked everyone to refrain from making unfounded posts on social media outlets.
