Family Member Charged In Clayton Area Burglary

CLAYTON, N.C. — A Clayton man is facing burglary charges after Johnston County authorities said he broke into a relative’s home and stole cash, jewelry and other items.
The alleged theft was reported May 17 at a home on Mercantile Court outside of Clayton.
According to the Johnston County Sheriff’s Office, the suspect, 45-year-old George Nicholas Cook, is accused of stealing $589 in cash, a cell phone, three checks, an airsoft handgun and two rings from the residence.
Investigators said the stolen cell phone was later recovered.
Cook was charged with second-degree burglary and placed in the Johnston County Detention Center under a $25,000 secured bond.
