A father is accused of robbing his own 14 year-old son causing minor injuries.
Smithfield Police, with the help of Wilson’s Mills Police, were able to make a quick arrest following the 11:00 PM incident Saturday.
Police Captain R.K. Powell said officers responded to a home on Wilson’s Mills Road. A 14 year-old juvenile reported his father had snatched a necklace from his neck then also stole a cell phone from his ex-wife who was also present. A 17 year-old was also at home at the time.
Wilson’s Mills Police located the suspect, 37 year-old Gary Dwayne Shirley of McCullers Street, Smithfield a short time later at a convenience store and took him into custody without further incident.
Shirley was charged with common law robbery, child abuse, larceny, communicating threats, and conspiracy. Bail was set at $31,000.
