“Fight For Janson” Fundraiser Set For Friday In Clayton

CLAYTON — The community will come together Friday, Oct. 2 for a fundraiser benefiting 8-year-old Janson Herring and his family as he undergoes treatment for a rare, inoperable brain tumor.

The fundraiser for Janson Herring will be held from 5:30 until 8:30 p.m. at the American Leadership Academy Johnston Upper School Campus, located at 3770 U.S. Highway 70 Business in Clayton.

Janson, a third-grader at ALA Johnston, was recently diagnosed with diffuse intrinsic pontine glioma, or DIPG, according to his family. The tumor is located near the brain stem and cannot be surgically removed.

JoCoReport previously reported that Janson is receiving treatment through Duke Children’s Hospital as his family prepares for radiation treatments and explores possible clinical trials.

Friday’s fundraiser will include bounce houses, Gaga Ball, fairy hair, face painting, a silent auction and a foam party. Those participating in the foam party are encouraged to bring dry clothes.

A showing of the movie “Monsters, Inc.” is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.

Admission is $5, with tickets also available at the door. Children in eighth grade and younger must be accompanied by an adult.

Organizers said 100 percent of the proceeds will go directly to Janson’s family to help with treatment-related expenses.

The fundraiser is the latest show of support for Janson and his family since his diagnosis. A GoFundMe fundraiser is also underway.

The family continues to pursue available treatment options while supporters rally behind Janson.
