KENLY – Firefighters faced heavy smoke and flames coming from a 117 year old Johnston County home, when they arrived, Thursday evening.
Fire departments from Johnston and Wilson counties quickly responded to the 8:30 pm fire on Woodard Street in Kenly and were able to save the old structure known as “The Hodge House,” but authorities reported heavy fire damage to some areas inside.
A resident, who had just recently moved into the renovated home, was home alone when the fire broke out and was able to escape with her two dogs. A pet cat was still missing when emergency personnel left the scene after 11:00 pm.
The Johnston County Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the blaze. The American Red Cross was contacted to assist the resident.
