DUNN- A large fire this morning (Wednesday) destroyed a single-wide mobile home and an old farmhouse in southern Johnston County.

Just after 7:00am, the fire was reported in the 4400 block of Wood’s Crossroads Road, Dunn near the NC 242 South intersection.

Johnston County Fire Marshal Ryan Parker said there were no nearby fire hydrants and a tanker task force was deployed. Fire department tanker trucks from Johnston, Sampson, Wake, Wayne and Cumberland counties were dispatched.

Tankers shuttled water from a hydrant on NC 242 South to the scene, about a quarter-mile away.

The Johnston County Sheriff’s Office assisted with traffic control.

No injuries were reported.
The fire marshal said the old house was being used for storage.
