WILSON’S MILLS – A Johnston County woman was awakened at 2:00am Friday to unfamiliar sounds and ended up grabbing her four children then fleeing from her burning home.
Flames were reportedly seen far from the scene of the fire and firefighters reported the two-story residence to be “fully involved” when they arrived at the Horatio Court home off of Rock Pillar Road.
The woman’s husband was at work at the time of the fire and the two youngest of their six children were staying with grandparents for the night.
The home and its contents was a total loss but the woman and kids were all safe.
The displaced family of eight, with children ranging from 1 to 12 years of age, is being assisted by the American Red Cross.
Wilson’s Mills, Cleveland, Smithfield and Selma firefighters fought the blaze and the Johnston County Fire Marshall’s Office is investigating the cause of the fire.
