A Johnston County firefighter was injured while battling a weekend house fire. The fire was reported around 12:30pm Sunday on East Walker Woods Drive off Neuse River Parkway in Flower’s Plantation.
Four fire departments responded and arrived to find smoke and flames coming from the rear of the house. It took crews just over an hour to bring the blaze under control.
One firefighter received a minor injury and was transported to the hospital by an EMS crew. Another EMS crew standing by at the scene attempted to save the life of a pet cat with oxygen and CPR but the cat succumbed to smoke inhalation.
The Johnston County Fire Marshal’s Office determined the fire originated on the back deck but the cause could not be determined. No one was at home at the time the fire was discovered by a passing motorist.
The Archer Lodge, Clayton, Corinth Holders, and Thanksgiving Fire Departments responded. They were assisted by the Johnston County EMS Rehab Unit, Red Cross, and Johnston County Emergency Services.
