CLAYTON – Among a number of weekend wildfires across central and eastern North Carolina was a blaze off of Buffalo Road, near Fire Department Road, Saturday afternoon.

The fire, first dispatched as a “yard fire,” destroyed a shelter and equipment but firefighters were able to keep the flames away from the many homes in the area.

The Wilson’s Mills Fire Department called for mutual aid from other departments, including North Side and the North Carolina Forest Service.

The North Carolina Forest Service sent Rangers, a fire plow, three low-flying fixed-wing aircraft and a helicopter to help contain the fast moving wildfire.

There were no injuries reported.
Great job to all the Firefighters involved. Thank God no one was injured, or homes were lost.
