Firefighters Rescue Two Children Trapped Inside Burning Mobile Home

FOUR OAKS – Firefighters rescued two children trapped inside a burning singlewide mobile home. The fire happened Saturday night at 2339 Strickland’s Crossroads Road, off US 701 South.

Authorities said a woman had been cooking and left momentarily to carry some food next door to a neighbor, leaving three children in the residence.

While the woman was next door, a grease fire erupted in the kitchen. One child was able to escape but two other children were trapped inside.

Firefighters from the Strickland’s Crossroads Fire Department arrived quickly and found the mobile home fully engulfed, with flames coming from several windows.

Firefighters located the two young children. Both juveniles were transported to UNC Health in Smithfield with unknown injuries.

The Johnston County Sheriff’s Office and Johnston County Fire Marshal’s Office investigated the fire.

Strickland’s Crossroads Fire was assisted by mutual aid units from Four Oaks, Bentonville and Blackman’s Crossroads Fire Departments.

Johnston County Fire Marshal Travis Johnson said it is important to have working smoke alarms. Practice a fire escape plan with all members of the household at least twice a year to ensure everyone knows how to exit quickly and safely in case of an emergency.
