CLAYTON – A Selma man is facing multiple charges after police said he caused a multi-vehicle crash on Clayton Boulevard.
Around 9:19pm Tuesday, Clayton Police said they tried to stop a 2007 Chevrolet Tahoe on Clayton Boulevard that was displaying a stolen license plate.
The driver identified as Eric Sleeper, 54, of Selma, refused to pull over and fled from officers.
Police Chief Greg Tart said officers discontinued the pursuit due to heavy traffic conditions at the time.

After the pursuit had ended, Sleeper ran through two stop lights and struck three vehicles at the intersection of Clayton Boulevard and Shotwell Road in a work zone.
The Tahoe overturned and Sleeper attempted to flee on foot. He was quickly taken into custody.
Sleeper sustained several injuries due to the accident and was transported to WakeMed in Raleigh by Johnston County EMS.
The drivers of the other three vehicles and several passengers in the cars he struck sustained non-life threatening injuries and were also transported to Wake Med.
Eric Sleeper has been charged with felony fleeing to elude arrest, possession of stolen property, two stop light violations, speeding in a work zone, careless and reckless driving wanton disregard, and no operator’s license.
Something isn’t adding up… The chase was stopped and then he mysteriously wrecked right afterwards. The police just happen to see the wreck and then chase him down on foot? Nope, I don’t believe that the chase was called off.. Sounds very similar to the chase in Raleigh where the young man was killed and the 2 troopers were charged with lying.. I think the District Attorney may need to look into this one…
Who gives a sh**! I’m glad he got caught. Secondly, you don’t think by chance, he was still in escape mode driving fast and recklessly? Man! The IQ of these people in this country.
First of all you should not assume someone’s IQ level because you have no idea who you are commenting at. I didn’t say he was not still in fight or flight mode. What I said was, they were still chasing him and lying about it. That says how crappy the department is being lead. I know for 100% fact how the department works and how much they are known to lie and coverup things. I just want all people, including Officers to be held to the same standard. I am pro cop, but pro cops doing it correctly..
You obviously have never rode along with police and automatically think they are wrong. You are a liability!!
Nice try. No one was charged in the Raleigh case. 0/10 rage bait.
I never said anyone needed to be charged, what I said was that the officers do not need to lie.. That’s why the troopers will lose their jobs… Pay attention to what I posted..
SMH…who lied!! He ran and got caught! Thankfully no one was seriously injured!!
“…where the young man was killed and the 2 troopers were charged with lying.”
You stated they were charged.
Your own words not mine. Try again.
If you really read the article you would see that the District Attorney in Wake said it wasn’t a winnable case not that it wasn’t chargeable. Again, I’m not even sure why I am arguing with you on here, but it does past the time. Anyways… Just an easy job.. COPS tell the truth and things like this wouldn’t happen…
Glad he got caught, innocent people habit definitely got screwed since he had no insurance nor any form of drivers license when the ****** decided to flee from Clayton PD. Good work to the boys in blue
Funny seeing dumb punks always getting caught
