A familiar face has been named the first town administrator in Archer Lodge.
The Archer Lodge Town Council has selected former Mayor Mike Gordon to the newly created position. Gordon served as mayor from the town’s incorporation in 2009 until January 2018. He also received the first Key to the Town during a ceremony in December.
“It is an honor to be given the opportunity to help make Archer Lodge even better,” Gordon told WTSB News. “There are many day to day challenges that I can help council and staff accomplish with my history with the town. It is definitely humbling to be given that vote of confidence.”
“We are excited to bring Mike Gordon on board as town administrator Mayor Matt Mulhollem said. “He has a wealth of knowledge and experience. Adding this position will help us have greater coverage at town hall during business hours and allow council members and myself the opportunity to take a step back from day to day operations so that we can focus more on big picture items and policy which is what our citizens elected us to do.”
Gordon will work on a part-time basis at $30 per hour. There is no employment contract or benefits with the position due to him working fewer than 1,000 hours annually.
Gordon, a lifelong resident of Archer Lodge and twenty-four year veteran of the N.C. Army National Guard Active Guard Reserve. He also served and continues to serve in many volunteer capacities including 19 years as a member of the Archer Lodge Volunteer Fire Department, over 30 years as a volunteer for the Archer Lodge Community Center, 14 of which he served as its president.
Gordon is also a volunteer with the establishment of the Archer Lodge Water District and a member of the Archer Lodge Veteran’s Memorial Committee. He was also an instrumental member of the Archer Lodge Municipal Exploratory Committee, which helped spearhead efforts to incorporate the town.
