SMITHFIELD – Four people were injured, two seriously, in a traffic accident around 11:00am Wednesday. The collision occurred at the intersection of W. Market Street (US Highway 70) at M. Durwood Stephenson Parkway.
A white passenger car and gray SUV collided at the intersection.
The collision closed both eastbound lanes of W. Market Street for about 45 minutes before the roadway could be reopened. Eastbound traffic was detoured through the parking lot of Rose Manor Shopping Center.
Smithfield Police, Smithfield Fire, and Johnston County EMS responded.
I hope everyone can recover from this accident, but I still wonder why there are so many wrecks at this one intersection. It’s wide open, and you can see vehicles coming from any direction. Anyone have any clue about this?
