Four Oaks Native Serves As Intern In NC Senate

RALEIGH- Casey Holland, a native from Four Oaks, recently served as an intern in the North Carolina Senate, in the office of Senator Carl Ford. Senator Ford is a Republican Senator from NC Senate District 33, which encompasses Rowan and Stanly Counties, north of Charlotte.

Ford serves as chairman of the Senate Committee on Appropriations, Pensions Retirement and Aging, and State and Local Government. During his time as an intern, he was able to witness firsthand the passage of the addition to the State budget of 2023. Holland was present at multiple committee meetings on Finance, Judiciary, Education, and State government.

The son of Candace and Gene Holland, Casey is a 2022 graduate of South Johnston High School. He is currently an undergraduate student at East Carolina University, majoring in Political Science with a Criminal Law minor. He is also serves as a Resident Advisor in one of the residence halls on campus, and is President of one of the largest national honor societies at East Carolina University, Omicron Delta Kappa.

Casey has represented Johnston County in many capacities, being involved in state and local politics, including participation in a community leadership discussion with Former Vice President Mike Pence during the 2020 election cycle. He hopes to work in the state and federal government in some capacity after completing his education.

The General Assembly’s Legislative Internship, Summer Clerk and Externship programs provide students with professional work experience and a unique opportunity to interact with elected officials and learn more about the legislative process. The programs provide valuable work experience for undergraduate and graduate students, particularly those with an interest in political science, public administration, law, and a career in public service.
