SMITHFIELD – The Johnston County Board of Education is considering a request to name the media center at the future Wilson’s Mills High School in honor of Jim and Herberta Uzzle.
Mr. and Mrs. Uzzle were instrumental in the educational and character-building of students from 1948 through 1969. They served as educators in many capacities. Mr. Uzzle served students as the principal, math teacher, basketball and baseball coach, and community liaison. Mrs. Uzzle left an indelible mark on students’ lives through her work as an English teacher, librarian, sponsor, drama director, and student advocate, school officials said.
Wilson’s Mills High Alumni Association members are spearheading the media center naming request.
Under board policy, the request will be taken under advisement for 60 days. Afterwards, it will be voted on by the board.
Construction of Wilson’s Mills High School is being funded by the 2022 bond referendum.
