Garner Parks, Recreation & Cultural Resources Awarded Accreditation Status For Third Consecutive Time

GARNER – The Garner Parks, Recreation & Cultural Resources Department has been awarded accreditation status for the third consecutive time by the Commission for the Accreditation of Parks and Recreation Agencies and the National Park and Recreation Association. The department’s reaccreditation was celebrated at the Oct. 22 Town Council meeting.
To receive CAPRA accreditation, Garner PRCR provided evidence of compliance with more than 150 standards that represent best practices in the administration and management of parks and recreation agencies.
Garner PRCR was first accredited in 2015. There are currently only 222 accredited parks and recreation agencies in the United States. CAPRA accreditation is the only national accreditation program for parks and recreation agencies in the country.
“Completing the reaccreditation process and being recognized by our national peers is evidence of Garner’s commitment to having an exemplary parks and recreation system that delivers high-quality services to our community,” Garner PRCR Director Maria Munoz-Blanco said. “It also reflects the enthusiastic service of the PRCR team and their commitment to create and deliver programs that reflect the interests of our community.”
The accreditation process involved a review and visit by a team of peer parks and recreation professionals from Utah, Illinois and Minnesota.
The peer reviewers noted Garner PRCR’s preparation, responsiveness and collaboration throughout the visit, along with its attention to detail and willingness to provide clear and thorough clarification when questions arose.
Reviewers also cited the department’s comprehensive plans, policies and procedures as Garner continues to adapt to rapid growth.
They also highlighted a strong culture of collaboration among Garner PRCR employees, effective communication with other town departments and partnerships with outside agencies to help meet the community’s changing needs.
The peer review team also noted the department’s efforts to foster inclusion, connection and a sense of belonging while serving residents with a wide range of needs and interests.
