A small natural gas leak in South Smithfield has been contained. Shortly after 11:00am today (Wednesday) the Smithfield Fire Department responded to South First Street near Rose Street.
Fire crews stood by until representatives from Piedmont Natural Gas arrived and stopped the leak.
A section of South First Street was closed until the incident was cleared.
No injuries were reported.
