Grand Jury Indicts Wrong Way Driver Involved In Fatal Crash
KENLY – A Johnston County Grand Jury has returned a True Bill of Indictment against a wrong way driver who reportedly killed an innocent motorist, according to reports, was driving to a funeral.
Fernando Valdez Lynch, age 33, of Shearin Street, Rocky Mount was indicted for felony death by motor vehicle, being an habitual felon, and driving while impaired.
On May 21, 2022 at 2:46am, Lynch was reportedly traveling the wrong way in a 2016 Kia passenger car on Interstate 95 at the 108 mile marker near the Johnston-Wilson County line when he slammed head-on into a 2014 Toyota passenger car driven by Makayla Roche, age 25, of Jacksonville, Florida. Ms. Roche died at the scene.
A passenger in the Toyota, Kayla Agins, age 25, of Florida was seriously injured. Makayla was driving her best friend, Kayla, to her grandfathers funeral, according to reports.
Lynch had numerous prior felony convictions including speeding to elude arrest, breaking and entering, indecent liberties with a child, larceny of a firearm, and assault with a deadly weapon on a government official.
Lynch remains in the Johnston County Jail under a $1 million bond. At last check a trial date has not been set.

And he won’t get 10 yrs…
If he had those numerous prior felony convictions, I am amazed that he was not in prison. We are much too lenient on criminals. We do not need him in our society. Lock him up for a very long time.
Makayla Roche’ is the light of our entire family. He took Makayla’s life and destroyed 50 more in that act. He shouldn’t have been out of prison on the streets. Makayla loved her family and friends. she had a heart of gold. She was my Sunflower. I will love and miss her all of my days.
