Groundbreaking Set For New Clayton High School

CLAYTON — The Johnston County Board of Education will host a groundbreaking ceremony to mark the official start of construction on the new Clayton High School.
The ceremony is scheduled for 10 a.m. Feb. 19 at the Clayton High School campus.
The new facility will encompass approximately 278,000 square feet and is designed to support 21st-century learning with an emphasis on safety, security and modern educational environments. Plans include state-of-the-art classrooms, innovative technology and learning labs, as well as expanded athletic and fine arts spaces.

While the school’s design reflects contemporary educational needs, officials said it will also preserve elements of Clayton High School’s historic culture that have defined generations of Clayton Comets.
The new high school will serve up to 2,000 students in grades 9 through 12. It will feature a three-story academic wing and a two-story wing dedicated to arts and athletics. An open-concept layout is intended to promote flexible, collaborative learning spaces that encourage creativity, innovation and teamwork.
Construction of the building is expected to be completed by December 2027, with the full campus slated for completion in fall 2028.

Funny how we are going back to multi story school buildings … could have saved some land in the past on schools that didn’t need Athletic fields but everyone was told we had to go to SINGLE level construction
