Report: Gun And Marijuana Located Following Car Chase

SELMA – A 24 year-old man was arrested Monday night after a brief chase with a Johnston County deputy sheriff.

Around 11:05pm, a patrol deputy stopped a Chevrolet Impala on US 301 (Pollock Street) in the Selma city limits. As the deputy exited his patrol car to walk up to the vehicle he had stopped, the driver suddenly sped away.

The deputy pursued the vehicle on US 301, Poole Drive, and NC 96 North for a short distance before the suspect stopped.

Officers said they located a small amount of suspected marijuana inside the car and an AR-15 rifle in the roadway that had reportedly been tossed from the vehicle during the pursuit.

Isaiah Lathomas Watson, 24, of RA Lane, Selma was charged with fleeing to elude arrest with a motor vehicle, resisting a public officer, reckless driving, driving left of center, possession of a firearm by a felon, misdemeanor possession of marijuana, and simple possession of a controlled substance.

Watson was given a $50,000 bond on the charges. No injuries were reported.
