Gunshot Fired During Road Rage Assault, JCSO Says

CLAYTON – A 59 year-old man is facing charges following an alleged road rage incident. It started around 1:20pm Tuesday, Dec. 12 on US 70 Clayton Bypass near at the Highway 42 Exit.

According to the Johnston County Sheriff’s Office, Scottie Lentz Rogers of Castleberry Road, Clayton and man in another vehicle reportedly became involved in a road rage altercation while traveling on the Bypass.

The other party exited off US 70 Bypass at NC 42, and Rogers reportedly followed. The vehicles stopped on the exit ramp and a physical altercation ensued between Rogers and the second person, a 40 year-old Clayton man. During the altercation, Rogers allegedly produced a gun and during a struggle for the weapon, the firearm discharged. Luckily, no one was struck.

Deputies arrived, and after investigating the incident, arrested Rogers for misdemeanor assault by pointing a gun and misdemeanor possession of a controlled substance. Officers said they found seven Oxycodone pills and a handgun in Rogers possession. Those items were seized.

Rogers was released from the Johnston County Detention Center on a $1,500 secured bond.

Authorities said the victim and suspect did not know one another.

  1. Wow, lets fight and argue over who is right and who is wrong. Then here is a great idea, lets pull a gun, all over someone making a mistake while driving. Thats worth killing someone and thank God that is not the case here. People, calm down and say a curse word if you have to but don’t go after someone. If they feel their life is in danger then they would have the right to protect themselves and for what, a driving error.

  2. Nothing is worth pulling a gun unless you’re in imminent danger and fear of your life. Whatever happened to staying in your lane and minding your business. Some mighty skiddish folks running around now.

  3. I’m the other party and this article was written without actual facts. That man went BACK to his vehicle and chambered a round and also pulled the trigger in an attempt to take my life. It didn’t happen on the exit ramp, it happened right before MY exit and it was my life that I was worried about. I placed all of the phone calls before and after the incident and that man was set on killing someone. Stop assuming things based off articles written before the victims even have the access to what these reporters apparently do. And he pulled the trigger, there was no struggle and accidental misfire. This will all come out and I have more than enough evidence to prove it. Im former military and also had a weapon on me and no one got hurt after I took his gun after he tried to shoot me. That should tell you just how “aggressive” I was being. Not at all is the answer, if you’re wondering and this will all come to light soon enough. That man is a danger to society and there’s details the article left out about his gun…
