A search is underway for a suspect who beat then robbed a handicapped woman inside her Johnston County home this morning (Wednesday). The incident happened around 12:06am at a home off Cornwallis Road near Cleveland Middle School.
The 54 year-old victim said a family member arrived at her home on the pretense of visiting. After allowing the relative in the home, the victim said she was beaten with a metal rod and her purse was stolen.
The victim sustained severe lacerations and injuries during the attack.
The suspect, who has been identified but their name has not been released, fled before deputies arrived. Once located the suspect will be charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, assault with a deadly weapon on a handicapped person, and robbery with a dangerous weapon.
