Three people were injured following a head on collision Wednesday afternoon on Swift Creek Road near Short Journey Road, a short distance from the Johnston County Airport outside of Smithfield.
The Highway Patrol said the driver of a car was attempting to turn across traffic into their driveway but failed to yield to an approaching vehicle. The vehicles collided head-on in the roadway.
Three people were transported to local hospitals. The accident shut down a section of Swift Creek Road for about one hour.
