Heavy Police Presence After Reported Shooting On South Brightleaf Boulevard

SMITHFIELD, N.C. – Smithfield Police are investigating a reported shooting on South Brightleaf Boulevard.

The incident was reported around 5:15 p.m. Wednesday near the intersection of South Brightleaf Boulevard and Wal-Pat Road.

There was a heavy law enforcement presence at the scene, including Smithfield Police, Johnston County sheriff’s deputies and N.C. State Highway Patrol troopers.

At the scene, a sheet covered what appeared to be a body near the roadway.

Details surrounding the shooting were not immediately available.
