High-Speed Chase On I-95 Ends In Arrest

JOHNSTON COUNTY — A pursuit that reached speeds over 100 mph Friday afternoon ended when troopers arrested a 20 year-old man along Interstate 95 near Dunn.

Authorities said Shaheem Stephenson of Como, NC was driving a Chevrolet Camaro south through Johnston County when troopers attempted to stop him. The pursuit continued southbound into Harnett County, during which at least five vehicles were damaged in two separate crashes.

The chase came to an end near Exit 73 after the Camaro’s tire blew out. Troopers said Stephenson pulled onto the shoulder, exited the car and surrendered. A female passenger was briefly detained but released without charges.

The speeding Camaro reportedly struck a car, a SUV and a Highway Patrol cruiser during the chase. The car was forced off the interstate into a water-filled ditch.

The trooper and the other driver involved in that crash were taken to the hospital for evaluation. The Camaro also collided with a minivan in a separate incident.
Stephenson faces a long list of charges.

The narrative of who hit what doesn’t match the photos.
Assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury should be among his charges.
Sad Story, but if we continue voting in Town Councils who don’t allow new development, there will be a dried up town here, we need population growth of American citizens in Smithfield ASAP.
