Highway 70 Reopens Following Serious Accident

WILSON”S MILLS – A serious three-vehicle accident temporarily closed both directions of Highway 70 Thursday night. The collision was reported at 10:33pm in the eastbound lanes just east of the Swift Creek Road intersection in Wilson’s Mills.

Unconfirmed reports indicate a large commercial truck was traveling in the right lane below the posted speed limit due to a mechanical issue. The truck was struck from behind by an SUV causing the SUV to overturn in the roadway. A passenger car was also involved in the collision.

It took firefighters 10 minutes to extricate the driver from the overturned SUV before they were rushed to WakeMed with serious injuries.

One other person was transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The collision temporarily closed both east and westbound travel lanes of Highway 70 between Swift Creek Road and Wilson’s Mills Road until the wreckage was cleared shortly after midnight.

The State Highway Patrol, Wilson’s Mills Police Department, Wilson’s Mills Fire Department, Johnston County EMS and Johnston County Sheriff’s Office responded.
