Highway Dispute Escalates Near Four Oaks
FOUR OAKS, N.C. – A dispute between two motorists on Interstate 95 escalated Saturday morning when one driver allegedly displayed a handgun.
The incident was reported around 10:10 a.m. Aug. 15 near the U.S. 701 interchange at Exit 90.
A 32-year-old Four Oaks woman said she was merging onto I-95 when she pulled in front of a Chevrolet pickup truck.
The pickup driver then began following closely behind her, according to the report. The woman told authorities she tapped her brakes in an attempt to get the driver to back off.
Instead, the encounter escalated.
The pickup pulled alongside her vehicle, and the woman said the male driver displayed a handgun. She told authorities the weapon was visible but was not pointed at her.
The woman exited the interstate in Benson. The pickup continued on and did not follow her.
She was unable to provide a license plate number for the truck.
No injuries were reported.

When merging onto an interstate highway you need to going at the speed limit that’s posted on the interstate. Don’t merge on the highway going 45 or 55. You are asking for trouble.
Certainly you’ve been on these exits before? They are no where near long enough to gain the speed necessary to not disrupt traffic, and most travelers don’t merge to the left to allow others to merge into traffic. While I understand what you’re saying, to say one is asking for trouble while driving is a little silly, especially considering a gun was pulled out and shown…. No need for all of that, beep the horn, slow down and perhaps move over to allow traffic to merge. I’ll hope I don’t merge in front of you in the future.
there’s more than enough room to get up to speed and then some. The man shouldn’t have pulled a gun regardless, but she started the encounter by pulling in front of his truck and then brake checking him! It doesn’t justify his actions but she was still in the wrong
They don’t care. The police can’t do anything. I had a guy point a gun at me. Had his license plate and all. Called the cops and nothing. It’s he say she say. And if I was to defend myself I would get charged because I didn’t try to get away. Smh.

And this is exactly what you’re supposed to do if you cannot merge over. Way to be a competent driver!! You are a rarity nowadays!
Where did it state she was going 45 or 55 mph? There is another lane for a reason, you should move over to allow for vehicles to merge onto the highway. Also that left lane is called the passing lane for a reason, you move over and pass the slower moving vehicles.
Also, just because they were following to close, “tapping your brakes” was not the wise. Sounds like you actually had the rage too. You could have caused a major accident involving many other innocent drivers.
It’s shown everyday in many ways that regardless of speed you’re going you are to move over for merging traffic. Some people are just stubborn and mean as the devil in hell and refuse to obey the simple laws of the land.
