The Johnston County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a reported home invasion.
Around 4:00am Wednesday, deputies responded to a home in the 3100 block of Highway 70 East of Smithfield. A 55 year-old man told authorities he awoke to the sound of a noise in his living room. When he went to investigate he discovered the screen to his window removed and a small safe missing.
The victim told investigators the safe contained $38 in cash, a debit card, cigarettes, and medication. He was not injured.
Sheriff’s Captain Jeff Caldwell told WTSB News the incident does not appear to be random and detectives have a possible person of interest in the case. No additional details were released because of the ongoing investigation.
Deputies are continuing their search for two men wanted for a home invasion September 10th in the 6600 block of Covered Bridge Road in Archer Lodge. A teenager was at home alone when the suspects forced their way inside, took electronic items, then fled. No injuries were reported.
Anyone with information about either home invasion is asked to contact the Johnston County Sheriff’s Office at 919-989-5000.
