Report: Homeowner Finds Stranger Sitting Inside His Car At 2 A.M.
SMITHFIELD, N.C. — A Smithfield resident got an unexpected surprise when he stepped outside his Birch Street home in the early morning hours and reportedly found a stranger sitting inside his vehicle.
The incident happened around 2 a.m. on July 30. The homeowner immediately called 911 after spotting the man, who fled the scene on foot before officers arrived.
Smithfield Police quickly responded and located the suspect a short distance away.
Police arrested Nicholas Acrawfetus McNeil, 58, of Blount Street, Smithfield, and charged him with felony breaking and entering a motor vehicle.
Authorities said nothing was reported stolen from the victim’s vehicle.
Detectives believe McNeil may be connected to other unsolved vehicle break-ins in the Smithfield area. Those cases remain under investigation.
