Homeowner Finds Unexpected Visitor In Search Of Frozen Treats

JOHNSTON COUNTY, N.C. – A Wilson man was arrested after allegedly entering a Johnston County homeowner’s garage and attempting to steal two Icee freeze pops from a freezer, authorities said.

The incident was reported around 10:05 p.m. on June 4 at a residence in northern Johnston County.

According to the Johnston County Sheriff’s Office, a 74-year-old homeowner discovered a man inside his garage on Whitley Road attempting to take the frozen treats from a freezer and contacted deputies.

Deputies arrived and took the suspect, identified as 30-year-old James Ray Baker Jr. of Wilson, into custody.

Investigators said Baker told deputies he had been kidnapped and had been hiding in a closet for several days. However, officers reported finding no evidence to support the claim.

Authorities said there were no signs of forced entry into the garage.

Baker was charged with misdemeanor breaking and entering and misdemeanor larceny. He was placed in the Johnston County Detention Center under a $1,000 secured bond.

No injuries were reported.
