Homeowner Finds Unexpected Visitor In Search Of Frozen Treats

JOHNSTON COUNTY, N.C. – A Wilson man was arrested after allegedly entering a Johnston County homeowner’s garage and attempting to steal two Icee freeze pops from a freezer, authorities said.

The incident was reported around 10:05 p.m. on June 4 at a residence in northern Johnston County.

According to the Johnston County Sheriff’s Office, a 74-year-old homeowner discovered a man inside his garage on Whitley Road attempting to take the frozen treats from a freezer and contacted deputies.

Deputies arrived and took the suspect, identified as 30-year-old James Ray Baker Jr. of Wilson, into custody.

Investigators said Baker told deputies he had been kidnapped and had been hiding in a closet for several days. However, officers reported finding no evidence to support the claim.

Authorities said there were no signs of forced entry into the garage.

Baker was charged with misdemeanor breaking and entering and misdemeanor larceny. He was placed in the Johnston County Detention Center under a $1,000 secured bond.

No injuries were reported.

  1. Because old joco people don’t lock their doors and leave the keys in their vehicles because we didn’t have to until all the people came from other PLACES

    • Unsure whether it’s the influx of outsiders or just the way of our current world. Used to be easy to spot the bad characters when there weren’t so many. Now, they are everywhere. Citizens keep to themselves instead of taken care of each other. The world is full of selfish people. It’s a shame, really. I remember leaving the doors unlocked and windows up. Wouldn’t consider it for a minute these days.

  2. I understand calling LE but if the guy really wanted the frozen pops before he was hauled off if I’d been the homeowner I’d had to make sure he was able to eat a couple.

    • That’s so sweet, Connie! We will be sure to send the criminals to your house for you to maybe bake them pies or a tray of cookies.

Toxic empathy at work folks….some people fail to see the results of rewarding bad behavior.

  3. This is one of the strangest articles I have read in a while! He should have knocked on the door and asked for help or at least introduced himself but no he just wanted to get into the man’s freezer? And he was kidnapped? Weird

  4. Looks like at least half a can of whoop-a55 was applied by someone. Would have been easier to just ask for the pops.
