The Wayne County Sheriff’s Office has arrested two people on murder and burglary charges following a reported home invasion this morning (Thursday). The incident does not appear to be a random act.
Deputies responded to a 5:35am call reporting a burglary in progress at 1982 Old Grantham Road. The home was occupied by Rasheed Jackson and Mariah Alston.
Before officers could arrive on the scene they were notified one of the occupants in the home had been shot and the two suspects had fled in a silver passenger car.
Responding deputies spotted the car on Old Grantham Road near the scene. The vehicle finally pulled over on Old Mount Olive Highway.
The passenger, later identified as Deangelo Rivers, 24, of Dudley fled on foot but was later detained following a search of the area.
The driver, Isaac Aaron Taylor, 24, of Dudley was detained without further incident.
Other deputies who had responded to the scene of the home invasion located Rasheed Devonte dead from a gunshot wound. Detectives later determined the two victims knew the two intruders.
Rivers and Taylor have been charged with murder and first-degree burglary. They are being held in the Wayne County Detention Center without bond.
