Police believe a homeowner returned to their residence Saturday while a burglar was still inside.
Around 1:00 pm, a 78 year-old West Smithfield resident returned to her home on Rogers Drive. Interim Police Chief Keith Powell said the victim may have startled the suspect when she arrived.
Officers were called and found evidence where two doors had been damaged. No items were reported missing however police seized a screwdriver, tire iron and chisel believed to have been left behind by the suspect.
Chief Powell said police have a possible suspect and are following up on leads in the case. The victim was not injured.
