NC Wildlife and the Johnston County Sheriff’s Office are jointly investigating the death of a hunter whose body was discovered in a stand in a remote location.
Wednesday night, the 55 year-old victim reportedly went on a wild hog hunt in a remote location off the 4300 block of Devil’s Racetrack Road outside of Four Oaks. Around 1:00am Thursday his body was discovered in the stand several hundred yards from the roadway.
The victim, who was from Cresco, Pennsylvania, died from a gunshot wound.
The weapon was recovered at the scene. No foul play is suspected.
Investigators would not confirm reports the victim may have been reaching for his gun when the weapon may have accidentally discharged. More information is expected upon completion of an autopsy report from the NC Medical Examiner.
