Northbound lanes of Interstate 95 in Smithfield were shut down for more than three hours Wednesday night. A tractor trailer hauling an oversized load struck the bottom of the Brogden Road Bridge at Exit 93.
The Highway Patrol and NC Department of Transportation rerouted traffic off I-95 at the US701/301 interchange (Exit 90) near Four Oaks onto US301 into Smithfield while the incident was cleared.
The mishap also postponed overnight paving on I-95 by a DOT contractor.
The northbound lanes were finally reopened around 11:00pm. No injuries were reported. Photos by John Payne
