SMITHFIELD – Smithfield Police have stepped up patrols following an indecent exposure incident on the Buffalo Creek Greenway behind Smithfield Community Park on M. Durwood Stephenson Parkway.
Around 5:40pm Tuesday, a 22 year-old woman was jogging on the trail when a man exposed himself to her. The victim immediately reported the incident. Officers canvassed the area but could not locate the suspect.
The suspect was described as a black male, approximately 20 years of age, 6 foot tall, 160 pounds, wearing a striped shirt and jeans.
Police said the female victim was on the greenway trail as it entered the community park when the incident occurred.
Captain R. Sheppard said there have not been any other reports of similar incidents at the park or along the trail. As a precaution, officers have stepped up patrols in the area.
