GOLDSBORO – An inmate at the Cary A. Winders Jail Annex in Goldsboro was found unresponsive in their bunk by detention staff, around 5:30am today (Tuesday). Detention employees immediately began life-saving measures until Wayne County EMS could arrive.
Paramedics with Wayne County EMS also provided life-saving measures, but their efforts were unsuccessful.
The Wayne County Sheriff’s Office said, as customary with in-custody deaths, the North Carolina SBI was contacted and has responded to begin an investigation into the inmate’s death.
The inmate’s name is being withheld at this time, pending contact with their next of kin.
