SMITHFIELD – At the request of the Smithfield Police Department, an East Smithfield t-intersection will become an all-way stop.
Police Chief Pete Hedrick received approval to make the intersection of North Avenue and West Street a three-way stop. Chief Hedrick said the department reviewed the intersection following a citizen complaint and a recent serious crash at the location.
Chief Hedrick said there is a “2,100 foot straight run without any stop signs” approaching the intersection on West Street, which can create a speeding issue. And he said there is high pedestrian traffic in the residential neighborhood.
In a motion by Councilman David Barbour the request was approved unanimously.
