SMITHFIELD – Early Wednesday morning, a southbound Jeep towing a trailer was rear-ended by a silver passenger car on Interstate 95 near the US 70 Exit (Exit 95) in Smithfield.
The driver of the Jeep reported that he had slowed down to exit off I-95 onto US 70 when he was struck. Household items on the trailer were scattered over a wide area, closing both southbound lanes for a time following the 3:00am accident.
There were three occupants of the Jeep, included two passengers, a 90 year-old woman and a 73 year-old man. The driver of the Jeep was not injured.
The two Jeep passengers and driver of the passenger car were transported to area hospitals.
Selma and Smithfield firefighters and police responded with the Johnston County Sheriff’s Office and the North Carolina Highway Patrol to the accident.
Charges are pending.
Anybody want to bet the trailer lights were not plugged in?
If you would have looked closer before passing judgement. You would see the trailer lights on.
Prayers for all to recover. Looked like a mess. Question? Did the utility trailer have lights?
