Johnston Community College leaders seek to serve true transformational and systemic change on campus.
SMITHFIELD – Johnston Community College President David Johnson and Board of Trustees Chair Lyn Austin have released the following joint statement regarding Johnston Community College’s commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion:
“Like so many other people, we were heartbroken by George Floyd’s death in Minneapolis. The deaths of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor and Ahmuad Arbery are just a few recent examples of the systemic racial injustice that continues to plague our country. Equity and access have long been part of the foundation of Johnston Community College’s (JCC) core values. JCC celebrates equity, diversity and inclusion and will only tolerate solidarity, peace and acceptance for all we serve.
As the leaders of JCC, we vow a renewed commitment to the continued development of an environment that supports social justice and space for engaged discourse and spirited decision-making enriched with diversity of thought and people.
We will increasingly devote concerted time and effort in developing relationships with individual and institutional partners who will work alongside us to ensure mutual attainment of goals related to equity, diversity and inclusion.
We seek to serve as leaders for true transformational and systemic change for our students’ learning, our students’ personal and professional development into socially responsible leaders, our interpersonal and collegiate relations, our institutional achievements, and for the greater communities in which we serve.
We are One College with Endless Opportunities with a deep commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion serving ALL with pride!”
