JOHNSTON COUNTY – The Johnston County Board of Education voted this morning (Thursday) to appoint Jeff Sullivan to the District 7 school board seat. He will fill out the term of Ronald Johnson who was removed from office after his conviction on criminal charges. The term expires in December 2028.
Three candidates, Gracie Chamblee, Thomas Daughtery, and Mr. Sullivan were interviewed on Feb. 4 by the board.
Thursday morning, after minimal deliberation, the board voted to approve Jeff Sullivan as the newest member of the Johnston County Board of Education.
“As Chair of the Board of Education, I am thrilled to welcome Jeff Sullivan to the JC Board of Education as a representative of District 7,” stated Lyn Andrews, Johnston County Board of Education Chair. “It is most evident that Jeff has a love for Johnston County and a true passion for Johnston County Public Schools.”
Sullivan has served as an educator for Johnston County Public Schools for all of his 32-year career and an additional two years as a driver’s education instructor at Clayton High. He has served in various roles including assistant principal, special education teacher, Exceptional Children Program Specialist, teacher assistant, and coach, which he believes will help him provide a well-rounded perspective on matters.
Sullivan intends to provide, “careful attention, collaboration, and willingness to listen to different perspectives in order to make decisions that focus on student success.”
“We look forward to Jeff sharing his talents with the Board as we continue to move our school system forward,” Andrews said.

It’s time to take a page from the Trump playback– remove the entire Board of Education and let parents handle the education of their own children! #MAGA
No matter the choice parents choose for their children’s education, they’re ultimately responsible for their child’s successes and failures.
So when zukowski left the board intereviewed people and terry tippett, who got the second most votes after Z, didn’t get the job. Now they decide to give it to the person who did get the second most? Strange. Seems to me the board wanted Sullivan to begin with. I wonder?……… never mind.
Well ain’t this some BS joco!! We voted NO to this person but yet he gets the job anyway.
I retired from the Smithfield Police Department November 2022, and I voted for Jeff Sullivan. God raises up and God puts down, let us give the man a chance.

Nothing says “ democracy” like installing a person people didn’t choose for the person the board wants. Seems like that happened recently….. can’t remember where.
Why do I get the feeling like the board has already arranged this?
Sooner or later, or maybe not. The people of Johnston county have to understand what kind of School Board they have. They want puppets and anyone that speaks up, well you know the rest of the story.
