SMITHFIELD – Jeremey Daughtry is the new Smithfield Fire Chief. Daughtry received his official oath from Mayor Andy Moore during the October 3 meeting of the Smithfield Town Council.

Mr. Daughtry started in 1988 as a volunteer with the Brogden Fire Department. He served as a firefighter for the Goldsboro Fire Department for four years before joining the Town of Smithfield as a firefighter in 2006.

Daughtry left Smithfield in 2011 to serve as the Director of Fire Training at Johnston Community College. He returned to Smithfield in 2016 as Division Chief of Fire Training and was promoted to Assistant Fire Chief in 2018.

“It is an honor and a privilege to serve as the 14th Fire Chief for the Town of Smithfield. I’m blessed with a great group of fire professionals who support me and each other.  Throughout my 25 year career, I’ve had the opportunity to work in many different areas of fire protection and being the new Fire Chief for Smithfield is, in many ways, a culmination of those efforts. I look forward to serving our citizens for many years to come and my door is always open for questions and concerns,” Chief Daughtry told The Johnston County Report.

Daughtry replaces former Chief Mike Brown who retired this summer.
