Johnson, Batten Reach 50-Year Milestones At Strickland Crossroads FD

FOUR OAKS, N.C. – Strickland Crossroads Fire Department recently recognized two longtime members who have each reached 50 years of service with the department.

Fire Chief H.M. Johnson and Board Chairman Billy Batten were honored for five decades of service, representing a combined 100 years with the volunteer department.

Both men come from farming families and have remained involved with the department through decades of changes in equipment, responsibilities and the needs of the community.

Their service has extended beyond responding to emergency calls. Over the years, both have helped provide leadership for a department that has also served as a gathering place for the Strickland Crossroads community.

Johnston County Fire Marshal Travis Johnson said reaching the milestone is significant for both men and the department.

“Reaching 50 years of service is an incredible accomplishment for anyone, but having two people from the same department reach that milestone together says a lot about the kind of commitment that has shaped Strickland Crossroads Fire Department,” Johnson said.

“Chief Johnson and Chairman Batten have dedicated a significant part of their lives to serving their neighbors and building this department into what it is today.”

Johnson, who also serves with Strickland Crossroads Fire, said he has seen their influence firsthand.

“Their example of service, hard work and commitment to the community is something we hope to continue for generations to come,” he said.

The recognition also highlighted the legacy Johnson and Batten have helped establish for future generations of firefighters at Strickland Crossroads.
