SMITHFIELD – A Johnston County employee has tested positive for COVID-19. The employee works for the Department of Social Services. County officials notified the 300 plus DSS workers late-Tuesday the employee was tested and has been self-isolating since the onset of their symptoms.
Co-workers who had been in close contact with the individual have been identified and instructed to self-quarantine. The number of employees told to self-quarantine was not disclosed.
DSS offices were cleaned and sanitized after the employee tested positive for COVID-19.
In a letter to employees, officials said, ” We are here to support everyone during this difficult time. We send our best wishes to the people affected. Thanks for all you do – we’ll get through this together.”
As of Tuesday afternoon, there have been 49 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Johnston County with 3 deaths. Health officials are investigating a fourth death to see if may be linked.
