Johnston County Man Previously Charged With Fraud Arrested Again After High-Speed Chase

DUNN — A Johnston County man was arrested Thursday night after leading Dunn police on a chase that began on U.S. 421 and ended on Interstate 95, authorities said.

According to the Dunn Police Department, Sgt. Green attempted to stop a white SUV with only one working headlight near Sampson Avenue. The driver, later identified as Cameron Elijah Hairston, age 26, of Benson refused to stop and fled north on I-95.

The pursuit ended near Exit 75 when the vehicle came to a stop. Police said Hairston was taken into custody without further incident. Investigators later determined Hairston had multiple outstanding warrants from Johnston and Wake counties.

Hairston was charged with felony fleeing to elude arrest, driving while license revoked, speeding, reckless driving, and operating a vehicle without two functioning headlights.

In addition to those charges, Hairston was served with numerous outstanding warrants, including 14 felony counts of obtaining property by false pretense, possession of a controlled substance, one felony and one misdemeanor count of larceny, failure to work after being paid, and injury to personal property.

Hairston is accused of repeatedly conning residents across the area. He was arrested by the Johnston County Sheriff’s Office on October 11 following the latest alleged scam.
