Johnston County Native Inducted Into NCAE Educational Hall of Fame

Colavito

RALEIGH – Mary Colavito, a former accounting technician in the NCAE Business Department for 24 years, never met a stranger. She was always willing to lend a helping hand or a listening ear. These were only some of many special qualities she possessed.

For her years of service and work to advance the cause of the organization, Colavito has been inducted into the NCAE Educational Hall of Fame. Each year, educators and/or staff members are named posthumously to the Hall of Fame in recognition of outstanding careers in public education or service to the Association.

Colavito was a native of Johnston County who grew up on a farm in Clayton and attended the county’s public schools. She was a dedicated wife of 43 years to her husband Chris and mother to their three children – two daughters and a son. She was very involved in her church, First Baptist of Garner, where she taught Sunday School and was a member of the choir. In addition, Colavito was an avid reader and was a member of the Felecia Book Club of Clayton.

A woman of many talents, Colavito enjoyed decorating and was always willing to lend a hand in making NCAE events unforgettable occasions. She especially loved Christmas and would go all out to make her home a festive and welcoming place for family and friends during the holiday season.

Colavito’s NCAE family compared her to a sunny day. “She was always smiling and happy to help anyone at any time, no matter what. She was truly an integral part of the NCAE Team.”

NCAE is the state’s largest education advocacy organization for public school employees, and represents active, retired, and student members.

  1. Terry, you don’t have to worry about her being on the school board because she passed last year and is being honored here posthumously. Mary Rose Colavito was a great woman who did a lot for this county. You should be more respectful.
